Kio Gwilliam recognised in The Lawyer’s Top 20 cases: the associates to know

Following the publication of its much anticipated “Top 20 Cases” for 2025, The Lawyer has recognised the rising stars in litigation who play a pivotal role in some of the UK’s most high-profile cases. 2025 sees Senior Associate, Kio Gwilliam listed for his work in the landmark Dr Rachael Kent v Apple case.

Since joining Hausfeld in 2017, Kio’s career has grown in parallel with this case. Kio mentioned to The Lawyer “my professional development has, essentially, tracked the life cycle of this case; I was a junior associate when the claim was filed and promoted to senior associate in 2022 around the time Dr Kent’s claim was certified by the Competition Appeal Tribunal.”

As a key point of contact in the case, Kio has played an important role in coordinating with counsel, experts, funders, and insurers. He has also been responsible for critical pre-trial applications and managing junior associates in trial preparation, demonstrating his expertise in complex competition disputes.

Beyond his work on Kent v Apple, Kio has also been involved in several other high-profile competition cases. He was part of the team that settled the Air Cargo litigation, representing 100 claimants against multiple airlines.

“Following settlement of those claims, I assisted with the preparation of the preliminary expert reports for the Trains collective action, which was the first standalone and abuse of dominance collective action to be filed in the Competition Appeal Tribunal.”

He has represented clients in the UK and European Courts regarding their Google Shopping claims and is also currently part of the team representing Ms Liz Coll in the UK collective action against Google, concerning alleged abusive conduct in relation to its Google Play Store, set to go to trial in October.

Congratulations to Kio on this well-deserved recognition, as well as to all the other individuals featured.
