AIJA Annual Congress 2023 - Re-thinking the law in four dimensions

In the week of 21st August 2023, the AIJA came together as one giant legal think-tank in Rio. Over five days, the AJIA Commissions led a series of sessions, workshops and speeches to generate a discussion around the legal issues which are likely to dominate or impact their specific practice area in the years to come, be it from an economic, financial, regulatory, humanitarian, environmental, or any other perspective.

Each session was tasked with identifying the issues that are expected to have direct consequences for clients and their businesses and to predict or provide a pro-active legal solution either in terms of strategy or potential legislation.

As part of the academic programme, Partner Duran Ross was part of the panel leading the discussion on: “AI-driven advocacy, a brave new world: the benefits and risks of using AI in dispute resolution”, organised by the International Arbitration and Commercial Fraud Commissions on Tuesday, 22 August.

The session focused on the impacts that the further advancement of AI may have in international arbitrations and litigation, forecasting issues that may challenge clients and practitioners in the future. As we navigate the future of digital justice, questions on data protection threats, error minimization, and potential liabilities were at the centre of the debate.
