Hausfeld wins 2021 GCR award for ‘Litigation of the Year - Cartel Prosecution’

We are delighted to announce that our firm’s work on the long-running In re Blue Cross Blue Shield Antitrust Litigation case was recognized as ‘Litigation of the Year - Cartel Prosecution’ award winner by the Global Competition Review.

Firm Chair Michael Hausfeld was appointed co-lead counsel in this litigation representing a proposed class of individuals and businesses that pay Blue Cross Blue Shield entities for health insurance (“subscriber plaintiffs”). Partner Megan Jones was appointed to the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee and Partner Arthur Bailey was appointed to the Discovery Committee.

After about eight years of multi-district litigation, including 150 depositions and five years of mediation, a proposed class of subscribers secured a $2.67 billion settlement from the Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) network, which was preliminarily approved last year.

Megan Jones, one of the lead attorneys on the case commented, “we are honored to receive this award.  It is a true testament to the hard work and tenacity of our team and co-counsel.  It means even more that our distinguished colleagues chose to vote for this kind of case, which arose out of the private enforcement of the antitrust laws.”

Winning matters were selected through a system of evaluation by GCR and voting by the general public. These awards honor “the best in competition enforcement, merger and cartel defense.”
