Hausfeld announces 20 promotions globally
Hausfeld is pleased to announce three Partner and six Counsel promotions across Europe and the United States for 2024.
Partner promotions
Dr. Philipp F. Hardung, Kyle Bates, Scott Gilmore, and have been invited to join the partnership.
In Düsseldorf, Dr. Philipp F. Hardung, specializes in commercial and corporate litigation. Philipp has acquired broad experience in litigation and dispute resolution, including cross-border commercial disputes and corporate litigation, as well as banking and financial disputes. Philipp regularly represents foreign institutional investors, domestic and foreign companies, and wealthy private individuals before German civil courts and in (international) arbitration proceedings. Philipp also publishes on topics of corporate and procedural law and is a lecturer in Dispute Resolution at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. According to the Handelsblatt - Germany's Best Lawyers Ranking, he is one of Germany's best lawyers in the field of Dispute Resolution.
In San Francisco, Kyle Bates’ practice focuses on complex litigation in predominantly antitrust, financial services, and consumer protection matters. Kyle has represented clients at every stage of litigation, including multiple jury and bench trials and appellate court work at both the state and federal level. Kyle’s focus on anticompetitive conduct has led him to represent a diverse group of clients including biotechnology firms, app developers, health insurers, venture capital firms, and others. Kyle also has a robust public entity practice in which he regularly serves as special outside counsel to state and local governments. In his cases, clients and classes he represents have obtained more than $200 million in settlements.
In Washington, D.C., Scott Gilmore handles complex and cross-border cases in U.S. and international courts. He represents and advises clients in matters spanning human rights, climate change, and artificial intelligence as well as intellectual property, competition, and privacy in digital markets. Scott has worked at the center of numerous high-profile and precedent-setting human rights cases, including Colvin v. Syria, where he secured the first-ever war-crimes decision against the Syrian government and a $300 million judgment, and Sacchi v. Argentina, where the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child recognized states’ extraterritorial obligations to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at Georgetown Law.
Counsel promotions
In Amsterdam, Jantina Hiemstra focuses on complex, large-scale competition and consumer protection litigation. Her broad range of experience representing claimants in Dutch litigation includes representing an association in a claim for damages for 60,000 women affected by defective breast implants manufactured by pharmaceutical company Allergan, as well as thousands of European truck purchasers harmed by the Trucks cartel in more than 25 proceedings. She has a background in academia and holds a PhD in product liability.
In Berlin, Philipp Westerhoff advises clients on EU and German competition law and antitrust litigation. His focus lies on private enforcement in digital markets and ecosystems, with a special interest in applications for interim injunctions. In addition, Philipp represents complainants in antitrust investigations relating to Big Tech companies such as Google, Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft at both European and national levels. He also represents several interveners in the pending Google Shopping and Android cases before the CJEU.
In London, Jonothan Broadbent is an accomplished litigator with a significant amount of experience in both competition and commercial litigation at all levels of the court system including specialist courts and tribunals. He has been instrumental in advising Hausfeld’s tens of thousands of clients in the opt-in group emissions litigation against Mercedes, as well as in advising the class representative in their £7 billion UK consumer claim against Google relating to search advertising.
In London, Stella Gartagani is an UK and EU qualified lawyer with significant experience in litigating cartel damages actions and abuse of dominance claims. Her experience extends across all levels of UK Courts and, at European level, the General Court and Court of Justice. She is a key member of the team representing Stellantis in its claim against suppliers of Occupant Safety Systems as well as in the recently filed £7 billion UK consumer claim against Google for abusing its dominance in online search.
In New York, Ashley M. Crooks has experience in a broad range of complex commercial and general litigation matters, and she has represented individual and corporate clients in state and federal courts across the country. Ashley’s practice focuses on cybersecurity and data privacy litigation and representing consumers in privacy and data security class actions. Ashley started her career at a large international law firm, where she served on national counsel teams in consolidated mass tort proceedings and medical device product liability litigation.
In New York, Steven M. Nathan’s work focuses on complex antitrust and cybersecurity litigation. Steve serves as a court-appointed member of several case leadership teams in data breach and wiretapping litigation and assists the leadership in many other cases and has worked on dozens of cybersecurity and privacy cases, including large MDLs, and has successfully collaborated with hundreds of lawyers working with and under him as on all phases of litigation, appeals, and settlements. Steve’s strength is his ability to handle diverse matters, from taking on key roles in case initiation, discovery, and settlement to ensure that the case team is prepared to handle all issues that may arise.
Other promotions
We are also pleased to announce a further three associate promotions in Germany and the UK, and one senior staff attorney, five senior paralegal, and two global operations team promotions in the US.
