Thomas E. Loeser
OVERVIEW
Thomas E. “Tom” Loeser is a partner in Hausfeld’s Technology and Data Breach practice with over 27 years of litigation experience representing consumers in complex class actions and other high-stakes matters involving technology, privacy, data security, antitrust, and consumer protection. Tom handles all aspects of complex litigation, from case strategy and leadership through discovery, depositions, briefing, and settlement.
Tom has played a key role in some of the largest consumer class actions in the United States, drawing on extensive experience leading complex consumer litigation, including the $10 billion Volkswagen “Clean Diesel” multidistrict litigation and the related $1.3 billion dealer litigation.
Tom has worked on hundreds of cases involving the collection, use, tracking, and disclosure of consumer data. His experience includes litigation against Meta concerning its collection and use of consumer data; leadership roles in the 2022 T-Mobile data breach litigation; litigation arising from an AT&T data breach affecting approximately 75 million current and former customers; and litigation concerning GM’s OnStar vehicle tracking practices. He has also represented online influencers in litigation against PayPal, Rakuten, and RetailMeNot concerning alleged withholding of online influencer commissions.
Tom brings a unique combination of private practice and federal law enforcement experience to his work. Before entering private practice, he spent nearly five years as a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Justice in Los Angeles, including in the elite cyber-crimes section where he investigated and prosecuted cases involving hacking, cyberstalking, online child exploitation, malware, cyber extortion, and data breaches. As part of his federal service, he received specialized training through programs operated by the FBI, U.S. Secret Service, Department of Homeland Security, and National Advocacy Center.
Tom has received an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell from 2016 to 2026 and has been recognized by Lawdragon among its 500 Leading Plaintiffs Consumer Lawyers and 500 Leading Plaintiffs Financial Lawyers.
