GCR 100 2023: Hausfeld ranked as 'elite firm' at the US Plaintiff Bar

Global Competition Review 2023 released its rankings for the US Plaintiff Bar highlighting how a handful of plaintiff-side antitrust litigation practices go toe-to-toe to secure instructions to take on some of the biggest companies in the US, and the key role we play as one of its elite firms. (*)

It recognises how at Hausfeld, our “20 partners contribute to a market-leading plaintiff-side antitrust litigation practice, giving the firm the bandwidth to handle multiple major cases across the US.”

Scott Martin continues to spearhead the competition practice after Bonny Sweeney joined the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division in July 2022, with Sarah LaFreniere and Samantha Stein both earning promotions to partner in January 2022. With 20 partners, 3 counsel, and 19 associates, Hausfeld has 8 attorneys recognised in Who’s Who Legal, and is the largest and most nominated team at the US Plaintiff’s Bar.

GCR further highlights our ability to secure large settlements for our clients and to lead on litigation that shapes the legal landscape:

“Recent work highlights include securing an $85 million settlement with major producers of farm-raised salmon, against which the firm filed a class action complaint in 2019. Hausfeld also reached a $90 million settlement on behalf of app developers that challenged the 30% revenue share that Google imposed on Play Store apps and in-app products.

Meanwhile, the firm continues its representation of a putative class of buyers of DIRECTV’s “NFL Sunday Ticket” broadcast package in a claim against the NFL, its 32 franchises and DIRECTV for allegedly violating federal antitrust law by bundling game broadcasts in an “all-or-nothing” package.

The competition group successfully appealed against a district court dismissal of the case in a much-cited decision concerning the shielding of anticompetitive agreements by complex licensing arrangements.

The firm is also co-lead counsel in a class action against leading disposable contact lens manufacturers alleging that the defendants conspired to adopt, implement and enforce resale price maintenance policies.”
