Hausfeld advises Avaaz on successful judicial review application against Fox’s takeover of Sky
The global online citizens charity Avaaz has won permission for a judicial review of Ofcom regulators’ decision that Fox/Sky are “fit and proper” to hold a UK licence if they were successful in their bid to own 21st Century Fox. Due to the importance of the case, a hearing is expected before the end of June.
In his ruling, Honourable Mr Justice Morris said:
“The case is arguable and may raise some important points of principle.”
This follows the successful interim ruling by the Competition Markets Authority in January, that the Murdochs’ full takeover of Sky would be against the public interest as it would give them too much power and influence.
Commenting on the case, the Head of the Human Rights and Environment practice at Hausfeld, Ingrid Gubbay said:
“This is an important development in our case against Fox’s acquisition of Sky. Working with Avaaz, we look forward to presenting our case before the end of the summer.”
