Continued investment in growing commercial litigation practice with a senior lateral hire
Litigation boutique Hausfeld is pleased to announce that Michael Bywell joins the firm as a commercial litigation Partner in its London office from Arnold & Porter, today.
Michael specialises in complex litigation, particularly in the technology area. He is regarded as a leader in the sector having acted on some of the UK’s largest tech-related matters over the past 25 years. His vast international experience includes representing local and global clients operating in North America, Europe, New Zealand and Australia.
This is the second partner hire for the firm within the year following the appointment of Lucy Pert formerly of Harbour Litigation and Quinn Emmanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, to the commercial litigation practice, in July. The firm now has 12 partners and over 30 lawyers in its London operation.
Commenting on the announcement, Managing Partner Anthony Maton says:
“Michael is an excellent addition to the firm. His technology practice brings a whole new arm to our offering, whilst complementing our growing commercial litigation practice. He will further expand our client base and benefit our elite claimant competition practice – where we expect to see an increase in claims in the tech sector.
“Michael’s appointment reflects our maturity in the market and our broader ambitions. We now have 12 partners based in London – the same size as most litigation practices in big City firms – and like those firms we aim to provide a full litigation service. Our continued growth will be fuelled by an increased use of litigation funding and we expect to see a rise in group actions as well. As market leaders in the use of alternative funding, extensive experience in groups claims and our growing reputation in commercial claims, we are in an excellent position to take advantage of these trends and further strengthen our position as a leading litigation firm in London and across Europe.”
Michael adds:
“Hausfeld has a remarkable reputation in the market as specialist litigators. I am delighted to be joining the team and growing the – already impressive – commercial litigation practice. What attracted me to Hausfeld were the firm’s creativity, entrepreneurship, and excellent track record. I’m looking forward to drawing on my experience in setting up leading technology practices and growing the firm’s reputation as a leading litigation boutique.”
