John is a Partner at Hausfeld in London having joined in March 2016 and is a commercial dispute resolution expert.
John has worked on a wide range of commercial litigation and international arbitration matters throughout his career with a particular emphasis on financial services disputes in the last decade. He was the partner responsible for one of The Lawyer’s Top 20 cases of 2017, Stuart Wall v. The Royal Bank of Scotland plc. He was also the partner responsible for the Premier Motorauctions case against PwC and Lloyds Bank, one of The Lawyer’s Top 20 cases of 2018. Both cases settled shortly before trial.
John is also currently acting on a variety of commercial litigation matters ranging from High Court employment disputes to breach of warranty claims, insolvency disputes and international arbitrations. He has also acted on intellectual property, trusts and tax disputes. John’s clients include major domestic and international companies as well as individuals in disputes against their professional advisors and employers. John also has extensive experience of acting for and against groups of claimants ranging from defending clients on claims being brought by groups of individuals to advising groups of bondholders and institutional shareholders against major international banks and corporates.
John has wide experience of cases in the Chancery and Queen’s Bench Divisions of the English High Court (including the Commercial Court) as well as in the appeal courts and his cases have often involved international elements. John was the lead lawyer on the first case to reach a judgment (issued in January 2016) in the London High Court’s new Financial List in which he acted for the successful claimants. He has also acted in regulatory investigations involving both the Financial Conduct Authority and the Securities and Exchange Commission. He has been involved in LCIA, ICC and LMAA arbitrations involving parties in various different jurisdictions and in various ICSID arbitrations. He has also acted in cases before the Courts of the British Virgin Islands.
