CDR Autumn Competition Litigation Symposium 2019

This full day event drew upon key themes from the CDR February Winter Symposium, whilst also focussing the most recent pressing challenges within the sector, and the scope for innovation in competition litigation.

Having launched a new law firm 10 years ago in the London market, and having pioneered competition damages actions in the UK and Europe, Hausfeld’s Vice Chair and London Managing Partner, Anthony Maton, started off the day with his keynote speech, building on his expert knowledge to address the current landscape for competition litigation, and what it means for clients, consumers, regulators and the wider market going forward.

The sessions, which each included a panel of legal experts from within the practice, covered:

  • Developments in abuse of dominance claims
  • The use of expert evidence in competition law claims
  • Developing issues, such as the prospect of a UK state aid regime
  • Challenges of certification in UK class action proceedings.

Partner and competition litigation expert, Anna Morfey, joined the morning panel to offer insight into ‘litigating financial services claims’, alongside Charlie Morris of Woodsford Litigation Funding and Angela Taylor of Travers Smith. They offered views from claimant and defendant perspectives, and updated practitioners on the progress of a variety of financial services related claims, both in the High Court and EU jurisdictions.

The day concluded with a drinks reception, providing the opportunity to network with like-minded individuals from business, public sector and private practice firms.
