Tort Liability and Governance for Artificial Intelligence

On October 24, Hausfeld Associate Ian Engdahl will be a panelist at the RAND Institute for Civil Justice and the RAND Kenneth R. Feinberg Center for Catastrophic Risk Management and Compensation’s Tort Liability and Governance for Artificial Intelligence event. Ian will join James Anderson of RAND, Andy Song of Manifold, David F. Snyder of American Property Casualty Insurance Association, and Miriam Vogel of EqualAI.

As the use of artificial intelligence (AI) expands rapidly, important questions have emerged regarding the roles of regulation and the civil justice system in addressing both potential and actual harms stemming from AI deployment. This panel will explore how the civil justice system will assign responsibility for mistakes and harms caused by AI, the likely categories of litigants and types of litigation that may arise, and how these factors will influence incentives for responsible AI use. Additionally, the panel will examine potential insurance coverage issues and the interplay between tort law and regulatory governance both in the United States and internationally.

This event will take place at the Ritz-Carlton, Pentagon City in Arlington, Virigina.
