International Forum for the Enactment of the Class Action Act
On July 14, Hausfeld partner Kyle Bates will speak at the International Forum for the Enactment of the Class Action Act, a presentation made to the National Policy Committee of South Korea's National Assembly. Kyle will present on the U.S. discovery system and its importance to the maintenance and resolution of class actions, drawing on his experience litigating such cases. Kyle presently represents a putative class of Korean app and game developers in class actions against Google pending in the Northern District of California.
The forum is hosted and organized by the Euljiro Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea, National Assembly Representatives Min Byung-duk, Kang Jun-hyeon, Kim Nam-keun, and Lee Kang-il, Consumers Korea, and the Coalition for the Enactment of the Class Action Act, and is moderated by Ji-yeon Jeong, Secretary General of Consumers Korea.
Kyle’s presentation will address the importance of discovery in U.S. class actions as a neutral, reciprocal mechanism for fact-finding and will draw on recent U.S. antitrust decisions — including Epic v. Apple and United States v. Google — to illustrate how robust discovery shapes trial outcomes. Kyle will also discuss current developments in U.S. discovery practice, including the use of AI, preservation of ephemeral messaging, and proportionality standards.
Kyle’s appearance builds on Hausfeld's continued engagement with Korean class action reform, following testimony delivered by Hausfeld partner Christopher L. Lebsock before the National Assembly in September 2025.
