James J. Pizzirusso Appointed Co-Lead Counsel in PowerSchool Customer Data Security Breach MDL
James J. Pizzirusso, partner in Washington, D.C., has been appointed Co-Lead Counsel for Individual Action Plaintiffs in the PowerSchool Customer Data Security Breach Litigation (In re: PowerSchool Holdings, Inc. and PowerSchool Group, LLC Customer Security Breach Litigation, MDL No. 3149).
The multidistrict litigation, centralized in the Southern District of California, consolidates dozens of cases arising from a large-scale data breach involving PowerSchool’s Student Information System. The breach affected approximately 62 million students and nearly 10 million educators and staff across the U.S. and Canada. The compromised data includes names, contact information, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, student grades, medical details, and other sensitive personal information.
In a leadership order, issued on June 17, 2025, the Court appointed leadership for the plaintiffs, including co-leads for the class action plaintiffs, teachers union plaintiffs, and individual action plaintiffs. James was appointed Co-Lead Counsel for individual plaintiffs and brings to the role extensive experience in consumer protection, data privacy, and complex litigation.
James has previously served in leadership roles in some of the nation’s most significant data breach and privacy cases and brings deep knowledge and dedication to ensuring accountability and meaningful relief for those affected.
