Legal Week’s Banking Litigation and Regulation Forum

To help navigate what is the complex minefield of UK’s banking litigation and regulatory field, senior legal leaders from in-house and private practice as well as the Bar, gathered at a Banking Litigation and Regulation Forum on 13 June 2019, facilitated by one of the UK’s leading publications, Legal Week.

They adressed key challenges posed by litigation and regulatory investigations; preventing and detecting financial crime; responding to cyber-attacks and contractual discretion. Break-out sessions focused on practical topics such as managing mental health issues within a legal team; costs; changes within retail banking and dealing with challenging individuals.

Partner Lucy Pert joined an afternoon session on ‘Group actions and litigation funding’ alongside James Oldnall, Mischon de Reya, and Nicola Chesaites, Quinn Emmanuel, to discuss:

  • the appetite of funders and understand which cases they are interested in
  • current UK trends
  • how to minimise the risks associated with group actions
  • how these groups should be best managed
