Royal Mail admits to breaking competition law

On 19th September, Ofcom announced that ParcelForce, a division of Royal Mail and business parcel delivery service, and Despatch Bay, an online reseller of parcel delivery services, were found guilty of “implementing, monitoring and enforcing an agreement to share customers” which affected “at least” 90 customers. Royal Mail and Despatch Bay have admitted their involvement. 

Scott Campbell, London Partner and Head of Competition Disputes, spoke to GCR journalist Emily Craig on the announcement, stating that “dividing business customers is clearly a serious and deliberate infringement of competition law. It is good to see Ofcom acting in these circumstances. The duration of the agreement means that some businesses could have overpaid substantially for services as a result of this infringement.”
