OVERVIEW

Jamie is a disputes lawyer with a focus on complex commercial and competition litigation, including claims for large-scale collective redress.

Expertise

Jamie joined Hausfeld as an intern and has since trained and qualified at the firm. He has been a pivotal team member on some of Hausfeld’s most prominent cases, including the £480 million opt-out representative action against Qualcomm, New Balance’s ground-breaking fast-track claim against Liverpool FC, and the award-winning Trucks cartel claims. Jamie was also part of Hausfeld’s antitrust automotive practice – the strongest in Europe – for over two years. During his training, Jamie undertook a secondment at Which? where he gained in-house experience, focusing on commercial contracts and data protection matters.

Jamie has considerable case management experience, having been involved in proceedings at various stages, including pre-action, disclosure and trial, and has also been involved in successful mediation and settlement negotiations.

Prior to joining Hausfeld, Jamie volunteered at Citizens Advice and undertook work placements at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan and Mayer Brown, where he obtained an insight into additional practice areas including media law, intellectual property law and construction law.

Clients

Jamie has worked with international clients across a range of industries, including major UK and overseas corporations, and possesses experience on cases in the English High Court (including the Chancery Division and the Commercial Court) and Competition Appeal Tribunal. Experience

Antitrust/Competition

Jamie's competition disputes experience includes being part of the legal team:

  • Filing a representative collective action with the CAT on behalf of the Consumers’ Association (known as Which?) against Qualcomm on behalf of a class of around 29 million UK consumers alleging that Qualcomm abuses its dominance in the markets for smartphone chipsets and standard essential patents, the result of which is that Qualcomm is able to overcharge smartphone manufacturers like Apple and Samsung for its technology. Damages are estimated to be over £480 million.
  • Representing 7 car manufacturers, 4 of which are in Europe’s top 10, recovering damages as the result of various price-fixing and bid-rigging cartels.
  • Bringing claims on behalf of several large logistics, consumer goods, and haulier companies against the renowned Trucks cartel.

Commercial & Financial Disputes

Jamie's commercial and financial litigation experience includes being part of the legal team:

  • Representing Spanish and Panamanian companies, Trappit SA and Trappit Tecnologias SL, in a substantial claim against GBT UK Ltd, American Express’ Global Travel Division, in claims alleging that the global travel company misappropriated a highly valuable and commercially sensitive airfare booking software system (ARPO).
  • Representing New Balance’s ground-breaking fast-track claim against Liverpool FC, arising out of a sponsorship agreement related to the provision of playing kit and other licensed products. The case is understood to be the first time the English courts have considered the operation of a widely used matching provision which provides the incumbent party an opportunity to match the “material, measurable and matchable terms” in a third party offer.
  • Investigating claims against Daimler in relation to emissions.

Human Rights

Jamie has been a vital member of the Hausfeld teams working on the following cases:

  • A judicial review brought by the Good Law Project and EveryDoctor against the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care in relation to a $83.3 million public supply contract for PPE.
  • An appeal against a decision by the Department for Work and Pensions relating to personal independence payment disability benefits.
  • Other confidential cases.
