Experience
Antitrust/Competition
At Hausfeld, Andra has been part of the following legal teams:
- FX Collective Action (Evans v Barclays Bank & Others). Leading £3bn opt-out collective proceedings against eight major international banks arising from European Commission foreign exchange manipulation findings. Achieved victory in contested carriage dispute, landmark Court of Appeal breakthrough establishing first business-focused opt-out collective action in English legal history. Currently subject to Supreme Court appeal. The Lawyer Top 20 Cases 2020, Top 20 Appeals 2025.
- Represented London Array in a follow-on cartel damages claim arising from the European Commission's Power Cables cartel decision, securing a Competition Appeal Tribunal ruling that the cartel caused a 5% overcharge on export cables supplied to the London Array offshore wind farm. The Tribunal awarded damages plus interest and confirmed that the losses were not offset by renewable energy subsidies, with the judgments providing significant guidance on the assessment of quantum in UK competition damages claims.
- Represented a major retailer in claims for unlawful interchange fees against Mastercard and VISA as part of the Merchant Umbrella Proceedings in the Competition Appeal Tribunal.
- Represented Christine Riefa Class Representative Limited, an SPV established by Professor Christine Riefa for the purpose of bringing a claim against Apple and Amazon on behalf of millions of UK consumers who purchased Apple products. The collective action has sought damages of at least £500m for UK consumers who paid higher prices for Apple products due to a secret deal between the global corporations, which saw Amazon restricting sales of Apple products by independent merchants on its marketplace.
- Represented technology journalist Charles Arthur, a partner in Ad Tech Collective Action LLP, the class representative in a collective action filed in the CAT seeking up to £3.4bn on behalf of over 200,000 UK publishers of websites and apps against tech giant Google who allegedly has unlawfully restricted competition by favouring its own ad tech services and charging inflated prices in the online display advertising market to publishers since at least 2014.
