Eleanor Powell

Eleanor is a skilled litigator with experience acting for a wide range of claimants and defendants across a broad variety of commercial disputes. She has particular experience of dealing with issues arising under UK and EU competition law.


Eleanor commenced her legal career at the OFT (now CMA) before joining Walker Morris as a trainee solicitor and then Clifford Chance’s litigation team. She developed expertise across a broad range of areas, including competition litigation, commercial dispute resolution, regulatory, and banking litigation. Drawing on her understanding gained whilst working for the OFT, she also is able to provide valuable insights to her clients.  

Prior to Hausfeld, Eleanor was part of Mishcon de Reya’s litigation team and developed an expertise in group and collective opt-out actions on behalf of millions of consumers. She has experience working closely alongside litigation funders, economists and counsel to analyse the legal, economic and strategic issues related to claims. She was the lead associate for two major competition damages claims in the High Court, and Eleanor’s teams achieved significant results.


Eleanor has worked with a diverse client base including major retailers, big tech companies, modelling agencies, high-net worth individuals and clients in the transport industry.

Practice Areas

Competition Disputes

Before Hausfeld, Eleanor was a member of the core legal teams which:

  • Advised a major European retailer, to secure strategic settlements totalling tens of millions of Euros in relation to CPT/LCD cartels. She was the lead associate, including acting as her client’s independent advisor at meetings with the cartelists, their legal advisors and economists.
  • Achieved a significant judgment in competition damages litigation in May 2019, advising Media-Saturn proceeding against CPT cartelists in the High Court and surviving applications for summary judgment and/or strike out.
  • Spearheaded a funded group action case against Uber on behalf of black cab drivers through to pre-action stage.
  • Advised Ocado and other retailers in relation to High Court damages claim against MasterCard and Visa concerning unlawfully fixed multilateral interchange fees. Also advised Sainsbury's in recovering damages of £70m against MasterCard related to the same infringement in the CAT. She was the lead associate.
  • Acted on behalf of Microsoft in its stand-alone damages claim in the High Court in relation to losses suffered as a result of global price fixing of re-chargeable batteries.
  • Advised a modelling agency and a licensing agency in relation to a CMA investigation and a European Commission investigation respectively.

Commercial Disputes

Before Hausfeld, Eleanor was a member of the core legal teams which:

  • Advised and acted on behalf of Gina Miller in an unprecedented constitutional challenge in the Supreme Court concerning the Judicial Review of the Prorogation of Parliament.
  • Obtained a commercial settlement for a client facing a £30m claim against it in relation to its termination of a licence agreement concerning ground-breaking technology for remotely stopping vehicles. Eleanor negotiated a 'drop hands' deal with the licence treated as terminated and the client retaining full rights to the technology.
  • Acted for Barclays defending allegations in the High Court of mis-selling of interest rate swap products linked to Libor.
