Bertie trained and qualified at Gowling WLG (UK) LLP with their commercial litigation group. Bertie joins Hausfeld from US firm Dorsey & Whitney (Europe) LLP. He has predominantly worked on large High Court litigation and international investment-treaty arbitration.

Commercial Disputes
Prior to joining Hausfeld, Bertie was a member of the legal teams that worked on the following cases:
- Slater & Gordon (UK) 1 Limited v. Watchstone Group PLC (CL-2017-000348): Acted for Watchstone as the Defendant in a claim arising from the Claimant’s £637m acquisition in May 2015 of the Professional Services Division (PSD) of Quindell PLC (subsequently renamed Watchstone). The claim settled prior to trial.
Arbitration
- Albaniabeg Ambient Sh.p.k, M. Angelo Novelli and Costruzioni S.r.l. v. Republic of Albania (ICSID Case No. ARB/14/26): Acted for the Republic of Albania as the Respondent in this investment treaty arbitration. The subject of dispute was an alleged breach of a concession agreement for a waste management and renewable energy production project in Albania.
- Hydro S.r.l and Others v Republic of Albania (ICSID Case No. ARB/15/28): Acted for the Republic of Albania in this linked investment treaty arbitration. The dispute involved investments in the construction of a hydroelectric power plant, renewable energy investments and a television company. It also involved criminal proceedings brought against two of the Claimants for multiple charges including falsifying documents and money laundering.
