Hausfeld has been recognised by Chambers & Partners UK 2016 (“C&P”) as one of the leading firms in the Private Enforcement: Claimant – London category. According to C&P, Hausfeld is: “[s]ynonymous with competition damages claims in the UK thanks to its leading role in developing the market in this area. Well placed to handle both standalone and follow-on actions.” For the full ranking, please see here.
In addition, Hausfeld London partners Anthony Maton, Nicola Boyle and Lianne Craig have been highlighted as Notable Practitioners in the field. Hausfeld’s London Managing Partner Anthony Maton is described as the “leading practitioner in this area. Peers respect his experience, whilst clients appreciate his ‘very sharp mind.’ He has played a significant role in developing this area of the law.”
Partner Nicola Boyle “‘has that rare quality of being able to grasp every detail of a case whilst still maintaining a clear strategic overview’.” C&P furthermore remarked: “‘she is an experienced top-quality litigator who combines expert competition knowledge with a sound, pragmatic approach.’” According to C&P, Partner Lianne Craig: “is a well-regarded litigator who assists clients from a broad range of sectors including financial services. She also has experience of arbitration and mediation.”
Hausfeld’s renowned financial services practice has been also recognised by C&P on its Banking Litigation: Conflict Free spotlight table. C&P distinguished Hausfeld’s ability to offer “claimants huge experience in litigating large, complex disputes and investigations in the financial sector.” For the full ranking, please see here. This distinction follows an outstanding year for the firm after having been instructed to represent Guardian Care Homes in its swap mis-selling action against Barclays. This case was widely recognised as a “test case” on LIBOR manipulation. Hausfeld was instructed only four months before the trial and succeeded in settling the case.
Commenting on this recognition by C&P, Chairman Michael Hausfeld stated: “Chambers & Partners UK has recognized Hausfeld as a Band 1 firm for private enforcement of competition litigation and highlighted the firm’s expertise in the Banking Litigation – Conflict Free category. This distinction will further bolster Hausfeld’s ability to service its growing and high-profile caseload and maintain the firm’s position at the forefront of private enforcement and banking litigation expertise.”
This recognition comes at a time when Hausfeld is continuing to expand its litigation offering. In the last twelve months, Hausfeld opened offices in Brussels, New York and built up its team of litigators across the globe. In October 2015, the firm announced further expansion of its work in Germany, with the backing of at least €30 million in financing from Burford Capital to fund German claims, and the opening of an office in Berlin. The Burford facility is the largest known facility created to fund litigation in Germany, where there is significant and growing client demand for funding — especially in the area of competition litigation for which Hausfeld is known.
In the United States, Hausfeld has also been recognised by Chambers & Partners among the top law firms nationwide and was ranked Band 1 in the Antitrust: Plaintiff category. Please see here for the full profile.
