Experience

Brent Landau, Global Managing Partner of Hausfeld, is an accomplished antitrust and human rights lawyer who represents plaintiffs in complex cases. He has been named a "Titan of the Plaintiffs' Bar" by Law360, a "Distinguished Leader" by the Legal Intelligencer, and an "Antitrust Trailblazer and Pioneer' by the National Law Journal. Brent also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, where he teaches a course in legal ethics, and as a Trustee of the Philadelphia Bar Foundation.

National Law Journal Antitrust Trailblazer & Pioneer in 2015

- In re Air Cargo Shipping Services Antitrust Litigation – In which Brent represented a class of air freight customers that recovered over $1.235 billion in settlements for airline price-fixing. Brent was a principal settlement negotiator and presented both the opening and closing arguments at a multi-day evidentiary hearing on the plaintiffs’ motion for class certification, which the court granted. Brent then successfully argued against the defendants’ motions for summary judgment, after which the remaining defendants settled.
- In re Vitamin C Antitrust Litigation – In which Brent was a member of the trial team that secured a $162 million judgment for vitamin buyers following a jury verdict against defendants who argued they were compelled to fix prices by the Chinese government. When the verdict was challenged on appeal, Brent helped obtain a 9-0 victory in the United States Supreme Court, allowing the case to continue.
- In re Dental Supplies Antitrust Litigation – In which Brent serves as court-appointed co-lead counsel for a class of 200,000 dentists who alleged price-fixing among distributors of dental supplies and who succeeded in obtaining an $80 million settlement.
- Kashef v. BNP Paribas S.A. – In which Brent has been appointed as interim co-lead counsel for a proposed class of Sudanese refugees living in the United States, who allege that French bank BNP Paribas laundered billions for Sudan in violation of U.S. sanctions, knowing that the regime was committing mass atrocities fueled by the oil trade. The class obtained a major victory in 2021 when the court rejected the bank’s motion to dismiss and allowed the case to proceed.
- Roeder v. JPMorgan Chase & Co. – In which Brent represented a proposed class of hostages detained in Iran for 444 days from 1979 to 1981, who learned in 2019 based on newly unsealed evidence about Chase Bank’s role in triggering and prolonging their captivity.
- Clergy Sexual Abuse – On a pro bono basis, Brent was counsel to claimants in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Independent Reconciliation and Reparations Program (IRRP) and similar programs throughout Pennsylvania.
