ICC Africa Conference on International Arbitration

Between 1st – 4th June, the International Court of Arbitration (ICC) hosted its 5th ICC Africa Conference on International Arbitration. With the demand for the resolution of international disputes in Africa evolving rapidly, this conference was a welcome opportunity to examine the African experience in arbitration proceedings and the relationship between dispute resolution and inward foreign investment.

London Partner and arbitration expert – Ned Beale of Hausfeld London – joined the breakout session at 11:35am on the final day of the conference - discussing ‘Third Party Funding- Pros and Cons’. Alongside four expert speakers, he analysed the slow and steady rise in litigation funding in Africa due to the region's development of local infrastructure that support both litigation and arbitration, and the benefits and drawbacks of using third-party funding in the region in assisting with arbitration claims.
