Air Pollution Action

Air pollution is a growing concern for all Londoners both from an environmental and a health perspective.

Children face the highest risks because even minimal exposure to air pollution prior to birth and in early childhood may result in reduced lung development, lifelong disease, increased risk of heart attacks and strokes in later life, disability and premature death. Air pollution has also been linked to the onset of asthma both in children and in adults, and increased severity of asthma for those already living with the disease.

Why we are doing this?

We are working with the campaign group Mums for Lungs to bring together a group of parents in the Boroughs of Lambeth, Marylebone and Richmond, who feel their children may have been affected by poor air quality, to assist us with an initial assessment as to whether they may have a basis for legal action.

Criteria

If your child or children match the following criteria and you are interested in hearing more information about our legal investigation, please register your interest. The criteria are as follows:

  • Your child is under 18 and lives in the Borough of Lambeth, Marylebone or Richmond

AND

  • Your child suffers from asthma episodes or attacks;
  • Your child has not been exposed to smoke in the home; and
  • Your child has been diagnosed with health issues, which in the opinion received from your GP or other medical expert, are exacerbated by exposure to air pollution. These factors usually include a compromised immune system or a pre-existing medical condition

What we will do next

We will identify those who we may be able to assist with the second phase of our investigation from the data we collect. If your registration is chosen we will contact you during June/July 2018 to ask you to a seminar at our office in Holborn, to explain what we are doing in more detail.

If we do not get back to you in June/July then we will delete your data after 6 months of receipt in compliance with Data Protection Regulation. Mums for Lungs will post updates on their Facebook page so that you can follow developments.
